Home Sweet Homefront
Fighting For A Decent Place To Live
With shelter as a business, decent affordable housing has always been hard to find. During the Reagan years, drastic cutbacks in subsidies for low-income housing have forced many tenants into crumbling buildings, or for the most vulnerable, onto the streets. This program ironically juxtaposes old New Deal housing foot with direct actions people are taking to secure housing today. Footage from the founding conference of Albuquerque Union of the Homeless shows, homeless people with dignity, strength and intelligence, breaking with traditional media views. The program also features segments from tapes that instruct tenants who are ready to organize.
